    Date Day – The Brigantine – Escondido, CA

    Ohhh the Brigantine! I love this place for all sorts of reasons. When Jeff and I were dating, he used to live right by this place. I actually count this place as our first real “date” place since the first few we weren’t “official” or as some girls like to say, “we have no title” (hahaha!) and we would split the cost of the bill at the other spots. When we FINALLY had a title of “I’m yours, you’re mine”, Jeff took me to the Brigantine on a Friday night for a lovely dinner. This was back in 2007. I don’t remember much of what we ordered, except that there was prime rib and red wine involved, and it was delicious. You can’t really go wrong with that pairing I guess… Jeff would likely add that horse-radish was required too.

    We’ve gone back a couple times recently. The renovations in this place are awesome – I know the renovations happened a while back, but we had no idea until several months ago. The new look is much brighter, it seems that they still kept with a nautical theme but they definitely tore down the place and brought in a whole new design. The FOOD… ohhh the food..

    We’ve only sat in the lounge/bar area the last two visits. Whenever we go out and we don’t have the kids with us, we like to sit in the bar area and feel young again. 😀 I know that sounds… well, who cares how it sounds okay! We like to sit in the bar where the families with kids aren’t allowed. Haha! It’s the little things people!

    Now! For those in the area looking to try a date night here or a fun afternoon, here are the things we ordered:

    The Pork Belly BLT: thinly sliced crisp pork belly & bacon, heirloom tomato, butter lettuce, buratta cheese, & roasted garlic aioli. Served with their chips and coleslaw. Jeff kind of devoured this and I was thankfully able to have a couple bites. Every bite was perfect, they did not skimp on the pork belly. One really good sandwich.

    Oysters on the Half Shell: Whenever there’s oysters on a menu and there’s a happy hour going on, I go ahead and place an order. Oysters are really one of those “you either love them or you hate them” types of food. Some people cannot get past the texture, but I looooove them.

    Jumbo Lump Crab Cake: this crab cake is packed with goodness and served with fresh slaw and white wine mustard. Worth. It.

    Soup of the Day: The option we had was a seafood bisque. Order it. Especially on a rainy day. I enjoyed it so much we ordered a second one to go so I can have it for dinner.

    Cheesy Garlic Bread: Just don’t do what my husband did which was eat 4 pieces (one order comes with 4 pieces…so we ordered a second one as well!), he loved it, but I think all that garlicky mayo landed him a royal tummy ache. 1-2 pieces is more than satisfying.. but it’s so good. I was trying to avoid too much carbs for this lunch and I failed miserably. You HAVE to try their bread though, please, do yourself a favor and get at least one order.

    On our last visit we had the Monterey Artichoke Fritters with parmesan and lemon aioli, I would have ordered it again this time but we had to save room for the amazing –

    Mud Pie: As big as my face, and devoured in less than 3 minutes. We should have just gone ahead and ordered the artichoke fritters because on our full bellies we still ate this with no problem.

    An all-around good meal with a good glass of their Brigantine Pinot Noir. If you’re in North County, I highly recommend adding this place to your date night circle. And that’s that! Have a great day folks! <3 – Talia
