Who am I? Who are you?
I was given the honor to join a good friends blog and write a simple bio about myself. Geeze! I thought this would be a lot easier but when I sat down to write, my page was BLANK. I couldn’t answer a simple question about who I was? In the American public school system the education I received taught us that there was only ONE right answer, one generic outcome, but from a very young age I believed in my heart and soul that this couldn’t be true. As my mom liked to “gently” put it, “I march to the beat of my own drum”. I enjoy stepping out of the box and pushing the limits. I’m addicted to adrenaline. That feeling that makes your heart beat so fast it couldn’t keep up with a high speed car chase. It’s terrifying… it’s exhilarating. It reminds me that I’m really alive… LIVING! I don’t fear the unknown. On the contrary. I fear knowing what the unknown is. What fun is that. In having all the answers. Every day. Forever and ever. I am not rebellious and don’t have a point to prove. More likely than not I’m quietly and discreetly seeking out my own adventures, soul searching if you will. I can sit here and give you labels of who I am, a business owner, a yogi, a world traveler, a dreamer, a “brand new” wife. If I were asked to use one adjective to describe myself it would be ‘compassion’. I am the friend that you go to when you want against the grain advice to shake life up, go out on a whim, and see what happens. I’m a believer. I’m the girl who went on a two week vacation to another continent and ended up staying in that foreign country for an entire year, bouncing around living day- to day without a concrete plan. I can give you one definitive answer of what I am, but I don’t think that I would give you much insight as to who I am.
I believe that the closer you get to finding yourself, the more fulfilling your life becomes. You begin to stand up for what lights your soul on fire and in turn you inch yourself closer to finding your life purpose. That is, after-all, why we are all here, right? You start to gravitate towards people who share your interests and intrinsically repel those who do not. Getting out of my comfort zone takes a huge part of WHO I AM, Who I am becoming.
I would like to share with you how getting away has allowed me to do extensive amounts of deep soul searching. I am able to escape reality and immediately upon returning it is inevitable that I am recalibrating my life goals. When you are away from the mundane routine of life you are ripped away from everything familiar. You are not, unintentionally placed into “a box of expectations”, by friends and family. You can be whoever you want to be. I even used my middle name, Mischa, the entire year abroad as I got to know who I was away from it all. You’re free from everything. Traveling forces you to trust yourself, make quick decisions because you are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except for the essentials, sunlight, air, sleep, dreams, and the stars.
I’m excited to share with you this “journey inward” as I know we are all on a similar paths. I’d love to share my vision of how I see the world as “I’m marching to the beat of my own drum”. I believe that letting go of labels and expectations that are placed upon us will inch us closer to accomplishing our life goals. You choose which path to take, and please don’t let life brainwash you to think that there is only ONE answer. Think outside the box, get lost with me!
So back to Who am I? Who are you? I suppose we are all just people trying to figure it all out. Mistakes will help us learn and laugh. I encourage you to make them. I encourage you to be open about them. I also encourage you to shake things up a bit and listen to your inner voice. It’s extremely intuitive if you take yourself away from it all. You know what you want but you are too busy distracting yourself, from yourself, that you have buried that innermost desire that is stopping you from finding true happiness. Travel, escape, go somewhere alone and sit in the silence. Only there will we be able to find all the answers you have been searching for.
In my blogs you will be able to relate to my struggles to find freedom and balance in a world where we feel like work amongst many other things has us trapped. I would love to share with you the power of outside the box thinking, tips on traveling, escaping reality, and how to stop making excuses on why you don’t deserve to live the life you want.
Looking forward to adventuring with you! Also feel free to reach out to me if you have anything weighing on your heart or if you want advice on anything, remember I will always tell you to follow your dreams and trust yourself. Remembering that “everything you want is on the other side of fear.” unknown
